About me

Hi all, I’m an Industrial PhD candidate at University College Dublin - Conway Institute for Biomolecular and Biomedical Research and IBM Research Dublin. I focus on accelerating drug discovery by developing methods for building more robust and trustworthy computer models that can be used to predict the properties of potential drugs, reducing the necessity for experiments. Previously, I completed a BSc. in Biotechnology at the University of Oviedo and a MSc. in Bioinformatics (with focus on Structural Bioinformatics) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which provide me with a deep understanding of biochemistry, statistics, and computer science.

Specifically, my research has three main objectives: 1) to develop AutoML tools to empower experimental scientists to build their own custom models, 2) to develop better self-supervised foundation models for protein and peptide representation learning, and 3) to understand the best criteria for deciding what drugs should be prioritized for experimentation to both improve the models and achieve the most potent drugs possible.

My thesis supevisors are Denis Shields and Thanh Lam Hoang.
